- HIGHLAND PARK ORGANIZING FUNDRAISER FOR SUSAN G. KOMEN FOUNDATION:
I am doing something new this year at Highland park HS and have all of my region on board. We are collaborating to host a Pink Out event. All of our opening games for district are to raise money for the Susan G Komen Foundation. I was wondering if you might mention something about this in tomorrow's mailing, as I think it would be AMAZING if more regions in the state could put this together. It is incredibly easy to set up and register, and since w are all involved in a women's sport, it makes for us to support a strictly women's cause. Most of us either have breast cancer, have a family member or friend who does, or have a friend who has a family member that is stricken with this terrible disease. it touches everyone in some way, and I would love to see Texas contribute significantly to the cause.
We are wearing pink socks, shoe laces and ribbons in our hair. UIL will not allow Pink jerseys. We are handing out some of the stuff sent to me by SGK, pins, info cards, ribbons, etc. to those who donate at the gate. We also had a little cheapy t shirt designed for the occasion to sell on our campuses, so the profits from that can go to the fundraiser as well. And, it is generating great publicity for our sport! :)

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
- I’m still in the process of correcting and fixing email addresses after the computer crash of last week. I will have everything completed on Sunday.
- I’ve had several questions concerning softball realignment from the UIL. They usually post spring sports alignments in March or April.
- I’ve also had several coaches email me about number of scrimmages that a school can play in. Remember, the regular season UIL about games per week is NOT the same as during scrimmages. Your team may only participate in two scrimmages per week. (Examples: Tuesday/Friday, Tuesday/Saturday, Friday/Saturday, etc --- NOT Tuesday/Friday/Saturday.)
- Finally, we are pitching from 40 feet this season! I had a coach email me last week saying that the umpires chapter told him that it was up to each school to determine whether pitchers pitch from 40 or 43 feet. The UIL website under softball clearly defines that the distance change occurs in 2011.

UIL Reclassification and Realignment Information
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
AUSTIN— The biennial UIL reclassification and realignment for the 2010-11 and 2011-12 school years will be released Monday, February 1 at 9:00 a.m. CST. The new alignments, established by enrollment figures submitted to the UIL by its member schools in October, will serve as football and basketball districts for the next two school years. The University Interscholastic League will host a question and answer session for interested media outlets regarding the release of the reclassification and realignment Monday, February 1 at 9:15 a.m. at the UIL building in Austin. All media present will be given complete reclassification and realignment packets. Media outlets interested in scheduling an interview with UIL Director of Policy Dr. Mark Cousins or UIL Director of Athletics Cliff Odenwald for Monday should contact the UIL Media Office to set up a time. Reclassification and realignment districts and information will be released through an electronic press release at 9 a.m. Monday to media on the UIL press release recipient list. The information will also be available online via the UIL web site at www.uil.utexas.edu, and at the 20 Regional Education Service Centers across the state. Additionally, complete reclassification and realignment packets will be available at the UIL office in Austin. The reclassification and realignment will also be revealed on Fox Sports Southwest at 9 a.m. Monday on a special episode of the High School Spotlight hosted by Craig Way. The show will be dedicated solely to reclassification and realignment issues, both debuting the new district alignments and discussing the realignment process with UIL Executive Director Dr. Charles Breithaupt, UIL Director of Policy Dr. Mark Cousins and UIL Director of Athletics Cliff Odenwald. The show also will be streamed on FoxSportsSouthwest.com. |
